The sanctions against the bank's shareholders - M. Fridman and P. Aven do not affect the day-to-day operations of Alfa-Bank Ukraine

On February 28, 2022, the EU imposed sanctions on some businessmen. The sanctions announced on the bank's shareholders, M. Fridman and P. Aven, apply ONLY to the individuals, and do not have impact on Alfa-Bank’s operation in Ukraine. The United States and the UK have NOT imposed sanctions against M. Fridman and P. Aven; no restrictions apply to the above-mentioned businessmen in these jurisdictions.

Certainly, Mikhail Fridman (32.86%) and Petr Aven (12.40%) are the shareholders of ABH Holdings S.A., however, they don’t hold a controlling ownership stake; on several occasions, this has been formally confirmed by the regulatory bodies of Ukraine.

In this regard, the sanctions apply only to the shareholders, i.e., the individuals, but not to the bank as a whole. Thus, the sanctions don’t have any impact on Alfa-Bank Ukraine that is operating as normal, without any restrictions.

Moreover, the issue of changing the Bank's ownership structure is now being dealt with to comply with the requirements set out in the international and national laws and to ensure uninterrupted operation and customer service.

Alfa-Bank Ukraine is one of the largest Ukrainian privately-owned banks (6,500 employees, 1,500,000 customers) with the foreign capital. The Bank is a member of ABH Holdings S.A. (ABHH), the privately-owned investment holding company headquartered in Luxembourg. The ABHH banking group consists of the banking and financial institutions located in Eastern and Western Europe, including the Netherlands and the UK. The shareholders of Alfa-Bank (Ukraine) are ABHH (Luxembourg, EU), the parent company of the banking group and ABHH’s subsidiary - ABH Ukraine Limited (Cyprus, EU).

Among the ultimate beneficiaries of the Bank and the entire holding (ABH Holdings S.A.) are UniCredit S.p.A. banking group (Italy) - one of the largest banking groups in Europe, as well as TMFСR (USA) - an international cancer research company.

Currently, the Bank continues to operate in conformity with the NBU resolution On Operation of the Banking System under Martial Law. All critical functions provided by the Bank have been set up in record time to enable the branch banking operations, ATMs replenishment, payments made by corporate customers, and ensure an uninterrupted service delivery via the Sense digital bank.
